You have to hook it up to some speakers or a stereo system to hear the sound well, fyi. ( I don't have digital cable, just the cheap kind that comes straight out of the wall.
This one was the cheapest but it definitely does it's job. I have a old flat screen computer monitor that I wanted to turn into a TV.
I saw a bunch of other external TV tuners out there for way higher prices. Instant cable TV on my old monitor.
I didn't want to go through my computer because it's kind of slow. I just hooked the cable coaxial wire into this tuner and then hooked the tuner to my monitor and presto.
So I don't know how it works with digital cable boxes) My DVD player worked great too. So much for that extra flat screen tv I was about to shell out 300 bucks for.
Great product, worked well.Did exactly what I needed to do.Don't know if it will work with the signal cutover in 2009.I'm not using it anymore.
I can switch between resolutions easily. I have also noticed that the remote that goes with the device is not the same as the one shown in the site.
I was able to make it work quite easily, but I noticed that the remote buttons might have been interchanged. The 'Browse' button is supposed to give us thumbnails of our existing channels, but what it does is it switches to different resolutions supported by the box.
I have received the TV Box yesterday, and performed some rigorous testing. Pressing 'Time' allows us to set the sleep time ( I believe that was intentional ).
Pressing the 'Right' button displays a simple 'snake' game on the monitor. Pressing 'Sys' displays the Calendar on our monitor.
You will have to try out all the buttons to make sure you understand what it does, not what the label indicates it will do.On the positive side, the display is acceptable. Over-all I think it is a good product for its price.
Video and sound quality are fine, I'm not really picky on that. The biggest con is the remote - its insane and clearly made in China. I got this so I could have a second TV for my bedroom. Everything about it is counterintuitive. I have a normal TV in my living room but I wanted the option to occasionally watch TV in my room. It serves its perfect - turns a monitor I've always had into a TV provided that you pay for cable in your home.Set up is as easy as can be. It says 1,2,3,4 then on the next row 5, 6, 7, 8 then on the next row 9,0 -- IMPOSSIBLE to input the channel in the dark. That would seriously annoy me if this was my primary TV but its not so I don't worry about it too much.So I would say if you're cheap and need an occaisional TV or you're a starving college student who wants a TV but already owns a monitor - this is for you.
I have been using the product for a couple of months and so far its working as expected. The casing for the unit is not as sturdy as I would have hoped but its placed on a shelf out of the way so it should be ok as long as it's protected. I have a 19inch flat panel dell monitor connected running 1280x1024 and the picture is reasonably good. Not as good as my main TV but about what I expected. The biggest issue I had was that I originally had low watt micro speakers connected that came from an external CD player and the output of the unit was very weak. I replaced them with a stronger pair with a bit stronger amplifier and they are working fine.
